Kristof: We promised to put the ruff & jam guys in the spotlight today.
Jean-Marie: Good afternoon everybody,my name is jean marie, i am the ruff part in ruff and jam
Kristof: And your name is then of course?
Luke: My name is Luke, i’m a member of ruff & jam,my nickname is jam
Kristof: And the mixture of those 2 is of course r&j
Kristof: Before you were better known as a duo of producers “ruff & jam”
Jean-Marie: Yes indeed
Kristof: I heard you both worked for kylie Minogue?
Jean-Marie: Yeah,We got the accapellas via Stephen bass our representant in the uk, we made 3 different versions: a club mix, a lounge mix, dedicated to Kylie’s fans and we thought about making a new single version of the already existing single and capitol America told us that they wanted to have the ruff & jam single version as the next kylie release, and with this single release we had a billboard nr1 (kylie on air now)
Kristof: what was it like to work for Kylie Minogue?
Luke: It is fantastic, it’s a great feeling. when we got the vocals,we were excited and thought: “wow! we gonna make something big! before Kylie, we did more casual stuff,so it was a new experience for us. The team we were working with in London told us: ok you have a free card to make whatever you want, so it was really interesting for us to go to another level. And when we heard that it would be taken as a single for the U.S. charts, we were really excited, it was a great experience because she is really a fantastic woman .
Kristof: Did ya meet kylie in person?
Jean-Marie: No, never
Kristof: But you received kinda reactions on your work or not?
Jean-Marie: Yes indeed, we received reactions by email, that was very cool, everybody said : “ok guys you did a great job”,and that was it in fact…
Kristof: Ok, sometimes things work like this..
Jean-Marie: Yep sometimes they do.
Kristof: Love at first sight the remix for kylie minogue, then there was the sugababes adventure, what did ya do with the sugababes? ( sugababes on air)
Luke: For the sugababes is was a really funny experience cause we had a really short time to do it, it was around Xmas so everybody was out having fun and we were locked in the studio mixing, it was the same for new year’s eve. We were really happy when we got the result from the djs, saying that it wasgreat, we had great comments over the web too it was a nice xperience.
Kristof: You both worked with a lot of known people : like sophie ellis bextor, sugababes,so right now are there people in the current dance scene or in whateva other scene you wanna work with?
Jean-Marie: Well perhaps spend less time in remixing and spend more time in writing stuff for artists. I would luv to do something with cyndi lauper and annie lennox..
Kristof: What about you luke any artist you would like to do something with? remixwise or sexually or whatever?
Luke: (Huge Laughters)… Madonna ! she’s really fantastic and aretha franklin the queen of soul…
Kristof: The new single is out” another day can’t let go” but there is an album coming as well, tell us more about it.
Luke: The album we are working on will be really ecclectic,it is like the way we make music it is really different stuff.
Kristof: When is the album coming out Jean Marie ?
Jean-Marie: Normally it should come out in october…
Kristof: Do you have a good feeling about the album?
Jean-Marie: I am very satisfied about it, like luke just said, the album is very ecclectic,it is very different, there are dance influences, funk, r&b,drum & bass.
Kristof: so right now there is a first single on the market, tell me more about it…
Jean-Marie: So the first single is another day ( can’t let go), sung by Nina Babet. She’s a singer from the UK.
Kristof: You like the inner soul of women, how about Nina, what is she like on the inside, i mean soulwise? ( Another Day ( Can’t let go ) on air )
Luke: She ’s got a really soulful voice and understands everything about music, she brings a great feeling while recording in the studio & she is a great performer on stage…
Kristof: Well we discovered 2 flemish guys, that already means something on the International market, Jean Marie & Luke, together Ruff & jam. Nina Babet for the vocals : Another Day (Can’t let go)…
